The Trade Federation, or, Let's Explore Globalization Through the Star Wars Prequels.
A play by Andy Boyd, with reading directed by Jenny Strickland.
In this play, Andy Boyd is invited to the office of George Lucas to pitch his idea for a new Star Wars film. His idea: a prequel to the prequels that fleshed out the backstory of the Trade Federation. Specifically, Boyd's script clarifies Lucas' original intention that the Trade Federation is a metaphor for the International Monetary Fund. The only problem is, Boyd's screenplay is bad. Really, really bad. OR IS IT? Only you can decide!
This is a play about taking control of the narratives we never asked for, and building a better world through science-fiction.
